Police Services officer Manuel Valentin returns to the campus where he learned law enforcement as a police aide. Valentin, 23, received his badge on March 15.

Gibson said having Valentin rise up from being a police aide is a great opportunity for the district to grow its own police officers.

"He now can serve as a mentor to other young student workers. I can say, ‘Look, Manny did it, you can do it too,'" he said.

Huddleston said all the police aides gravitate toward Valentin, making him the ideal role model.
