The men's soccer team deserves a B- because the team has not been playing to its fullest potential, but it has been doing its job to stay in the playoff race. The Comets' record is 5-6-3 overall and they are currently in 11th place in the regional standings out of the 13 teams that qualify for the playoffs.
The Comets' season has resembled a roller coaster. They started the season well with two wins and a tie before they fell, losing three consecutive away games, but they were able to bounce back with two home wins.
Since then, Contra Costa College has only been able to get one win in six games. The defense, which was strong in the beginning of the season, is showing some wear by allowing 14 goals in its last six games.
The Comets' key player so far has been freshman midfielder Diego Orellana. With seven goals and four assists, Orellana has been the playmaking, attacking midfielder that every team needs. He has been able to create plays from the midfield and go toward the goal to make some shots.
The Comets have five games left before the postseason, all of them against teams seeded in the lower rankings in the regional standings.
If the Comets are able to get back to the winning path, they will secure their playoff spot. The Comets' fate is in their own hands.
