The men's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive after beating College of Marin in a 1-0 shutout at home Nov. 6.

College Contra College (7-10-2 overall, 7-2-2 in the Bay Valley Conference) struggled a little bit in the first half, however, it was still able to hold the Mariners (1-7-8 overall, 1-4-5 in the BVC) scoreless.

CCC also missed scoring opportunities in the first that caused the team to turn the ball over.

Comet midfielder Jaime Ruiz scored the game winning goal and also his first goal of the season at the beginning of the second half.

Three minutes after Ruiz scored he suffered an ankle injury after a Mariner defender slide tackled him while he was clearing the ball.

"I was at the right place at the right time," Ruiz said. “ It hurts but I feel like I will be ready for the Yuba game on Friday”

The Comets are now in playoff contention after a rough 0-8 start in addition to early season injuries.

“We won this match and now we have one more game to make the playoffs,” Ruiz said. “ It took a lot of hard work and dedication.

The Comets next game is on Friday at Yuba College at 3 pm, and this is a must win for them to lock up a spot in the playoffs

A win at Yuba will mean the first postseason berth for the men’s soccer team since the 2005 season.

CCC and Napa Valley Colleges are tied for first place in the BVC but the Comets have the tiebreaker.
