Comet middle blocker Jessica Neville fails to hit the ball during the game against the Falcons at Solano Community College Friday.

FAIRFIELD — Positioning woes plagued the volleyball team as it lost its match against Solano Community College in three consecutive sets of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-10 here on Friday.

Contra Costa College (0-4 overall, 0-1 in the Bay Valley Conference) continued its losing ways as it failed to snag a road win in its BVC opening game against the Falcons (7-5 overall, 1-0 in the BVC).

“We played very well, however. Solano is a very good team who will (probably) compete in the Nor Cal playoffs,” Comet coach Zachary Shrieve said. “Solano is known for their serving and they put the ball where they wanted to.”

The Comets will hope to get their first win of the season on the road against Laney College Thursday at 6 p.m.

The team played with a more physical mentality compared to previous games, however, they were no match for the Falcons.

“Volleyball is a game of momentum,” Shrieve said.

The Comets showed stretches of executing well as they managed to force rallies against a superior SCC team.

While CCC would try to establish  momentum, the Falcons would snatch it away with scoring conversions and superior serving.

Shrieve said that a lack of communication also hurt the Comets as several players would attempt to block the ball at the same time which caused confusion leading to no attempts at defending balls, resulting in points for the Falcons.

“We will keep working in practice and as the year goes on we will keep improving,” Shrieve said.
