After falling in three sets against Chabot College, the volleyball team had high hopes of snagging a win in a six-team Alameda Cougar Classic tournament held at the College of Alameda on Friday.

Unfortunately for Contra Costa College, it was unable to win a set in the tournament as the squad lost both of its matches to Lassen and Reedley colleges, respectively.

The Comets’ (0-3) first defeat came against Lassen, when the team lost in straight sets of 25-23, 27-25 and 23-15.

CCC lost its second match in three sets as well falling 25-13, 25-14, and 25-9 against Reedley.

Comet coach Zachary Shrieve said that CCC lacked the ability to execute sufficient passing, which ultimately played a critical role in their losses.

“We need to improve on our passing,” Shrieve said.

Comet hitter Jazmine Mendoza said that the Comets were overwhelmed by the opposition’s performance.

“There were moments in both games that we were getting scored on,” she said. “(Lassen and Reedley) were more advanced.”

Despite the losses, the Comets seem to be very optimistic about their future
“We were all contributing together as much as we could but things didn’t workout,” Mendoza said. “We are still looking forward to our upcoming games.”

CCC will go on the road to face Solano Community College in its next game Friday at 6 p.m.
